Grand Turk hotels
The Turks and Caicos Islands are a group of islands that are situated in the North Atlantic, to the east of the Bahamas. The Caicos Islands cover much more land area than the Turks islands; Caicos islands cover approximately 145,000 acres, while the Turks islands cover only 6,400 acres. The Turks group of islands consists of two main islands, and the Caicos Islands are composed of six main islands.
The largest island in the Caicos chain is Providenciales (Provo to the locals) and there are many phenomenal places to experience if you visit this island.
Scuba diving Providenciales
Most of the best experiences take place in and around the water, and one the best ways to get a taste of the island is by going scuba diving. Whatever your level of skill you should be able to find a scuba diving company appropriate to your experience. The scuba diving companies offer a range of tours and experiences, from single day to several days in duration
Some popular diving locations on Providenciales include the Northwest Point, West Caicos, and French Cay.
Many people who visit Providenciales aren’t certified for Scuba diving, or they don’t have the desire to get certification, but they would like to be able to examine the underwater flora and fauna nonetheless. There is an alternative, with Snuba. Snuba is diving with the scuba tank following your movements on a raft which floats above you. A hose is fed down to your mouth, and you don’t have to swim with any heavy scuba gear. This, of course, makes for a very enjoyable diving experience. The Snuba center is located on Windsong Resort, and accepts children of 8 or older on their explorations of the reef and all of its sea life. Costs for children under 12 are $60, and for those over $12 the costs are $70.
More water based activities
If you’re not into diving, there are several kayaking and sailing outfits that can take you to some amazing places without getting too wet. People who are a bit more adventurous will probably love the kayak tours. An example tour for nature lovers can take you to Frenchman’s Creek Nature Preserve where you can see sharks, tropical birds, rays, and Turks and Caicos’ hallmark creature - the conch. You can also visit some of the tiny islands that teem with iguanas - a child’s favourite. You can also take custom tailored hiking and diving trips that can really take you to some of the most secluded environs in the world.
The smaller islands in this part of the world often have many individuals who operate catamarans and sailboats for single day or multi-day explorations. If you want to just sit back and enjoy the breeze of sailing and a good drink, then you should check out several options - catamarans, larger boats, double decker paddle boats that is equipped with a full liquor license and a bar - there is something for everyone.
Especially popular are the sunset trips.
Visit a Providenciales conch farm
If you need to have a 100 percent unique experience on every vacation you go on, then you need to visit the only conch farm in the world: the Caicos conch farm on Providenciales. This farm raises and harvests conch for eating, and exports their product to restaurants on the island as well as the rest of the world. There are tours of the farm for visitors from 9-4 on weekdays, and 9-2 on Saturday. This is no small operation; the onshore conch numbers breach two million, and then there is offshore raising that occurs as well.
